Right,

I haven't played any poker really today. I played for about 40 mins at 5/10 which went ok.

So I have a question for any of you.....

It's 7th street in stud, you have two pair and you knew on 6th that your opponent only had Queens.

If you bet out and they raise, you know pretty much they made two pair, but betting out will make you break even in the long term, do you check or bet?

That's what my friend asked me, to see if I understood some concepts of the game. I will leave it up for a few days, feel free to reply to this post with your answers and why.

If you're making the assumption that betting out is a break even play, then yes, you should always bet out, if solely for the fact that it adds deception value for your other hands.

Without the assumption that betting out is a break even play, you still bet out. If you check 7th your opponent will almost never bet with just a pair of queens, and will almost always bet with queens up. However, he will in most cases call down with a single pair of queens, and (rarely) raise you with queens up. Since going into 7th he is less than 50% to make 2pair you always bet.

On a side note, I dont have much experience so far, but I beleive I am much better at playing stud HU then in a full ring. Unfortunately, it is way too taxing in my opinion so I doubt I will hone those skills much.
